Aprelaxril is National Stress Awareness Month! It’s important for both your physical and mental health that you take the time to relax and rejuvenate your mind. We’ve compiled a few tips to help you unwind from whatever has you frazzled in life, be it work, school, bills or all of the above. Try out a few and let us know what you think!

  • Create a to-do list for every day
    • Prioritizing your daily tasks will help you stay organized and efficient. It will also ensure that you don’t forget any obligations you have that day.
  • Just say no
    • Giving too much of yourself to please everyone else will only add to your stress. You don’t have to say yes to any and everything. Give yourself the gift of time by saying no at least once or twice.
  • Fit in time for exercise or yoga
    • Exercise may be the last thing on your mind, but working out can actually boost your mood for up to 12 hours. Exercise releases endorphins that can trigger a positive feeling in your body. Yoga has also been proven to increase serotonin levels and provide a variety of health benefits.
  • Laugh it up
    • Laughter truly is one of the best medicines. A good laugh can relax the body, reduce stress hormones, boost the immune system, release endorphins and protect the heart.
  • Squeeze your hoku
    • Your hoku is the fleshy part of your hand that connects your pointer finger to your thumb. Squeezing this acupressure spot for 30 seconds can reduce tension in your upper body and reduce stress.
  • Think happy thoughts
    • Negative thinking can trigger your body’s stress response. Kick those negative thoughts to the curb and focus on the positives in your life.
  • Walk it off
    • Walking briskly has been proven to activate soothing neurons in your brain which dull feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. For an added benefit, walking outside in the sunlight can trigger the production of serotonin.
  • Listen to music
    • Research has shown that listening to music can relieve stress by stimulating biochemical stress reducers. So turn up the music and shake off that stress just like Taylor Swift would!
