The term “Movember” may not mean much to you, but for many it brings awareness to men’s health. You often hear of Pinktober, or Breast Cancer Awareness Month, promoting the importance of early detection. What about men’s health? It’s all too easy to let things escape your mind when it comes to the ever embarrassing prostate exam. Movember was established as a campaign to spread the word about men and their tendency to ignore their own health. The campaign was started in 2003 with 30 men participating. The idea is to let your moustache grow for the entire month of November with the hope that it will prompt people to ask, “What’s with the moustache?” This gives the “Mo-Grower” a moment to explain the idea behind the campaign and hopefully bring awareness about commonly avoided issues. The primary issues the campaign focuses on are prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity. Click here to learn more about the Movember Foundation. In the meantime, November is here so SHOW YOUR MO!
